1 AUTOMATING PARALLELIZATION OF REGULAR COMPUTATIONS FOR DISTRIBUTED-MEMORY MULTICOMPUTERS IN THE PARADIGM COMPILER Ernesto Su, Daniel J. Palermo, and Prithviraj Banerjee Center for Reliable and High-Performance Computing University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Urbana, IL 61801, U.S.A. fernesto, palermo, [email protected] Abstract { Distributed-memory multicomputers such as the Intel iPSC/860, the NCUBE/2, the Intel Paragon and the ConnectionMachine CM-5 o er signi cant advantages over shared-memory multiprocessors in terms of cost and scalability. Unfortunately, to extract all the computational power from these machines, users have to parallelize their existing serial programs, which can be an extremely laborious process. One major reason for this di culty is the absence of a single global shared address space. As a result, the programmer has to distribute code and data on processors and manage communication among tasks explicitly. Clearly there is a need for e cient parallelizing compiler support on these machines. The PARADIGM project at the University of Illinois addresses these problems by developing a fully automated means to translate serial programs for e cient execution on distributed-memory multicomputers. In this paper we discuss parallelization of regular computations using symbolic sets as a representation for data accesses and communication.

Special Issue on Parallel Architectures and Algorithms

The International Conference on Parallel Processing is an outgrowth of the Sagamore Computer Conference on Parallel Processing. The first Sagamore Conference was held in 1972. The name of the conference was changed, in 1975, to The International Conference on Parallel Processing. Thus, 1987 was the 16th year for the conference. In the 16 years since its inception, the conference has grown consi...

Parleda: a Library for Parallel Processing in Computational Geometry Applications

ParLeda is a software library that provides the basic primitives needed for parallel implementation of computational geometry applications. It can also be used in implementing a parallel application that uses geometric data structures. The parallel model that we use is based on a new heterogeneous parallel model named HBSP, which is based on BSP and is introduced here. ParLeda uses two main lib...

Developing a new model for availability optimization applied to a series-parallel system (Quality Engineering Conference Paper)

Redundancy technique is known as a way to enhance the reliability and availability of non-reparable systems, but for repairable systems, another factor is getting prominent called as the number of maintenance resources. In this study, availability optimization of series-parallel systems is modelled by using Markovian process by which the number of maintenance resources is located into the obje...

Evaluation of scheduling solutions in parallel processing using DEA FDH model

This paper gives a new application of DEA to evaluate the scheduling solutions of parallel processing. It evaluates the scheduling solutions of parallel processing using the non-convex DEA model, FDH model. By introducing each solution of parallel processing scheduling as a DMU with some relevant inputs and outputs this paper shows that how the most efficient schedule(s) can be identified.
